Commissioned beer tasted at Lambikstoempers’ Bierweekend in Alsemberg. Very dense and frothy, creamy, light yellowish white head over a finely sparkling, hazy brownish copper beer, looking more like a dubbel than like a true Belgian amber. Caramel in the nose, hazelnuts, dried leaves, liquorice candy, black tea, dried apricot, red apple peel, toast, bitter honey; soft, fluffy mouthfeel, bit resinous, dried fruits with a touch of baked banana, very caramelly malt phase with a nutty edge, soft leafy hop bitterness in the end. Pretty straightforward, but well-made and enjoyable beer, but closer to a dubbel than to an amber as far as I’m concerned.
