My first beer from this new micro brewery, which is apparently housed in the former Biertoren premises, an old school Flemish brewery from a bygone era. These people do not seem to have a lot of knowledge of international beer trends, so they brewed... another tripel. Cloudy yellow blonde colour, sticky but still loosely structured, off-white head; aroma of unripe peach, banana, freshly cut celery, bubblegum, some honey, grass and an unfortunate hint of DMS (cauliflower) - I guess they tried to finish it too quickly for the ZBF. Smoothly sweet taste, a bit honeyish, supple and slick mouthfeel, bubblegum sweetishness, decent bready malts supporting it, finishing in a grassy, simple hop bitterishness accompanied by a fairly strong, ’jenever’-like alcohol presence, warming but a bit wry as well. Sorry to say this, but if this beer is intended to revive the Biertoren era, think again: the world has changed meanwile, and there are just too many tripels around nowadays.
