Tap at le Coq. Like a lighter Jambe de Bois. Aroma is citrus, orange, light maltiness. Bit yeasty. Bit of pine hops. Taste is good, doughy, little bit of citrus orange again. Bitter finish. Ultra refreshing. Like it a lot. --- Beer merged from original tick of Wadesda Smeirlap on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9. Draft @ Barboteur.

Draught at Armsby, 6/28/15
Much darker than expected: an amber-chestnut liquid that is clear and topped by a mostly fleeting, off-white head.
Surprised at the lack of head retention, as DlS is usually much like Dupont in that regard, though I guess head retention takes a lot of odd factors in to account, so who knows.
Like Wadesda 4 that I had recently, this one smells tired and oxidized in the nose. It also smells completely malt-driven (and a not-too-exciting crystal malt at that). Bits and pieces of dry citrus (grapefruits, candied orange peel) dot the nose, but earthy, rather stale malts and yeast influences do not seem to bode well for the flavor.
To my surprise, however, the flavor doesnt seem oxidized at all, with a pretty fair balance of citric hops and lightly sweet caramel malts. The texture, soft and supportive, bails it out a lot here and plentiful house yeast character really takes over, ending with interesting with a decidedly Belgian ale character (light peach/nectarine, cherry skin, plaster, mineral, moderate acidity) and very little of anything that would make me think this an IPA.
