Bottle @ home. Slightly unclear pale yellow color, huge frothy white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, (Dutch) "peperkoek", herbs or spices. Taste malts, herbs or spices, ginger, yeast, slightly sweetish and a slight herbal bitter. A bit metallic as well. Firm carbonation, average to medium body. Not my kind of beer.

330 ml. bottle. Purchased @ De Hopduvel. Bottled on 02/2015. Pale clear golden, sparkling, small slightly off-white head. Nose is floral, strong pepper, big pear, citrus, big green apple & chunk of white wine, quite interesting. Taste is soapy, strongly esters with some grass, grain alcohol, green apple, light chemical bitterness, juniper berries, some plastic, strong spice, pepper, star fruit, quite soapy in the finish,… Dry, higher carbonation. Far from being on par with Duvel, this is a surprisingly solid example in a style that very often ends up being flawed & boring at best. Lingering soap. Pleasant surprise.

Little cloudy blond beer, big irregular off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: banana, citrus, bit spicy, coriander. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: citrus, very bitter, grassy, some coriander, more citrus. Aftertaste: dry, bitter, some grapefruit, grassy hops. Pretty good!

New commissioned beer for an association in Destelbergen. Slightly hazy, pale yellow blonde colour with vivid sparkling under an irregular, medium thick, ’dirty white’ head. Spicy aroma strongly reminiscent of ginger, apart from suggestions of banana, green apple, lemon zest, acacia honey, orange peel, coriander seed, juniper berries, grass, kiwi, cloves, sweet white wine; not too unpleasant, actually, at least if you don’t mind a fair dosis of spices in your beer. Taste begins with a sourish fruitiness (unripe pineapple, starfruit, green apple), expectedly strong and minerally carbo, rounded and soft, smooth mouthfeel, somewhat thin body, sweet bready malts overshadowed by a resinous spiciness with strong spice effect retronasally (not unlike De Graal Gember from the same brewery), coriander as well unless I’m confusing it with ginger but probably both, drying; finish has a firm amount of ’deep’, leafy, earthy, somewhat peppery, quite long hop bitterness. Not sure what to think of this: there are more than enough top-fermented Belgian ’blondjes’ as it is so this is at least a bit redundant, but the spices do make it different; still, they are dominant to such an extent that the flavour profile loses all its balance and becomes almost onedimensionally spicy - too much so for my personal palate.
