The dubbel in this series, from the same stylish champagne bottle with cork and hangtag. Yellowish beige, loosely structured yet sticky head; deep hazy chestnut brown robe. Aroma of raisins, fondant, toffee, walnuts, caramel, candied cherries, candi syrup, bourbon, pear and a hint of coffee beans. Candied fruits in the onset, sweet, pear syrup and raisins, candi, medium carbonation with slick and creamy mouthfeel, sourish citrus peel freshness, dark maltiness, caramelly, a bit chocolatey and a tad nutty, bitter chocolate touch as well as a slight roasted bitterness in the end with some residual candi sweetness (a bit cloying), herbal hops and bourbon-like, warming alcohol. Scotch-inspired dark ale, decent enough but a bit cliché.

Very stable, whipped eggwhite consistency, coffeemilk-colour head over totally opaque brown beer. Bit spicy and obvious dark malts, bit of cypress and other pine in the nose. Quite bitter, chocolate (bitter and milk-), spices and again cypress. Sweetness, malty (dark malts mainly) underneath. Medium bodied at least, medium to good carbonation, quite slick, very slight astringency. Quite good, actually.

75 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Delhaize. Cork broke to bits when I tried opening it. Loud pop. Dark chestnut / furniture / dark amber, little mocha head. Strange strong varnish nose, boozy, liquorish nose, light very thick dark fruits syrup, makes me think of cheap hooch. Fizzy body. Thick varnish taste, liquorish, boozy, liquorish & cheap date syrup, cheap alcohol, furniture, burns a bit in the back of the throat. Syrupy brown apple, liquorish, bay leaf. Fizzy varnish syrup taste. This is like a malt liquor equivalent of a Belgian Dark Strong Ale. What possessed them, this is way worse than my low expectation. Do yourself a favour, don’t pick this one up.
