75 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra Beilen. Slightly hazy golden with a fine white head. hoppy aroma with some wild yeast/bret like characteristics, sour orange, candy sugar and a bit of woodiness. Sour taste but in the background some sweetness. Very nice semi-sour hoppy ale.

Pale golden yellow colour, white head. Aroma of citrus, light sour note, white wine, wood. Light sour flavour, citrus, malts, light bitternes. Sweet malty flavour, malts, citrus and candy. Nice wild streak, but could’ve done with a bit more of a sour note. Still, quite an enjoyable beer.

Bottle shared with fonefan and chriso at the Brouwcafe, Scheveningen. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is big yeast, sour citrus. The flavour is moderate sour, acid, lemon citrus with a big yeast, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Bottle from Mitra Bunnik, as 1894 Oak & Hops, large sample, served in an Oersoep glass. Almost clear golden color, large frothy white head. Aroma of soft spicy and grassy hop, slight oak wood, bit grapes, slight spicy yeast. Slight sour in taste, bit bitter, slight hint of green apple. Slight alcohol note, bit dry. Medium to high carbonation, thin body. More of a belgian tripel with a slight sour touch. Nice flowery and hoppy aroma, which could benefit from a bit more yeast character (Brett or trappist-ish). But the taste is a bit harsh on the bitterness it seems, without much balance and a nasty sour twang, instead of the lactic acid giving it a bit more creamy and full body. Could benefit a bit from aging in taste, but not in aroma. So for now, for a relative fresh example, aroma is by far the best. Maybe with some age, it will go the other way.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/9/2014. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep gold color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon zest, pear, apple, apricot, white grape, citrus peel, oak, herbal, straw, floral, grass, clove, black pepper, light musty funk, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy/floral hops, oak barrel, and light pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon zest, pear, apple, apricot, white grape, citrus peel, clove, black pepper, oak, herbal, straw, floral, grass, light musty funk, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Slight tartness and moderate yeast spice/earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, pear, apple, apricot, white grape, citrus peel, clove, black pepper, oak, herbal, straw, floral, grass, light musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and oak barrel flavors; with a very crisp malt/yeast/hop balance and zewro cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly dry mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong pale ale. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy/floral hops, and oak barrel flavors; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

From a .75 litre bottle at the Brugge Beer Festival on 2nd Feb 2014. Amber/orange colour, big white, creamy head. The nose was a little on the sweet side with a mixed bag of aromas, summer fruits like passion fruit, peaches and oranges along with a grape note or two. The taste was more sour than the smell indicated. More citrusy and bitter with a similar aftertaste. I different and interesting beer well worth trying if you get the chance.

Tasted like a belgian tripel, with wild yeast and some extra aroma hopping. Bit of oak and barnyard. Nice.

--- Beer merged from original tick of 1894 Oak and Hops (Limited Edition) on 18 May 2018 at 13:26 - Score: 7
