Gouden Carolus Easter contains several types of malt and during the brewing process three different kinds of herbs are added to give it that fine, special taste. Its ruby red colour, high alcohol concentration of 10% alc.vol. and its full and well-balanced taste are a source of vitality and strength. A true delight, even for the most critical connoisseur.

75 cl bottle, shared. Hazy, amber colour with a thin, lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, spices, liquorice, yeasts and dark dried fruits. Some candid sugar. Taste is sweet. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes sweet and fruity with liquorice, yeasts and dark, dried fruits. Subtle alcohol dense notes. Excellent, hearty Belgian.

Dark reddish brown colour, firm cream head. Aroma of liquorice, iron, caramel, malts. Light bitter flavour, caramel, burned sugar, roasted malts, sweet brown sugar, iron. Quite pronounced minerals. Finish caramel, dark, somewhat burned caramel, iron, roasted malts, liquorice root, brown sugar. Too bad of the strong iron notes.
(from 75cL bottle shared @ home. Procured at the brewery in 2012 or 2013. BBF 12 Feb ?16 - and definitely not a golden ale)

Bottle at home. Two years old. In the glass the beer is nut brown, and is somewhat unclear. There is formed a small, light beige foam head. Aroma is filled with dried fruit, but also anise, brown sugar, dark wood and some chocolate and some liqueur like. The taste has even more touch of raisins and prunes, and dark berries, anise and leather. Mouth feel is surprisingly light and smooth, and it is a light bitterness on this. An absolutely nice and balanced, dark strong Belgian ale that is just right complex.

Bottle. Nose is licorice, star anise, orange, dough, cellar, vanilla, candy sugar, plums, slight strawberry and banana, very very appealing. Taste is strawberry leading to a dubble note of nut, slight cola, candy sugar, spice, anise, hint or licorice molasses, slight pepper, some dark fruit, dark fruit, chocolate in the rich finish. Mouthfeel is fine. I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting, I’ve never been that bothered on Carolus, which very sweet, this was a really enjoyable well balanced spiced dubbel.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma with weak hints of dark fruit. Sweetish malty spicy caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty spicy caramel finish.
