Gouden Carolus Easter contains several types of malt and during the brewing process three different kinds of herbs are added to give it that fine, special taste. Its ruby red colour, high alcohol concentration of 10% alc.vol. and its full and well-balanced taste are a source of vitality and strength. A true delight, even for the most critical connoisseur.

Stevig alcoholgevoel. Medium body. Afdronk is warmend, iets samentrekkend, iets bitterig en kruidig.

6 November 2021. Vintage bottle via Gentse Biervereniging. BB: 02/2012, rest of the label as good as ruined, so my guess is the 2010 edition. Hazy dark amber-brown, thin, foamy tan head. Aroma of candi sugar, burnt caramel, cinnamon, liquorice, biscuit, peanut, brown rum, date, raisin, ripe pear. Taste has sweet date, apple & pear in a ripe, oxidized way; caramelly and biscuity maltiness supporting spicy liquorice, herbs & faint nuts. Herbal hoppy finish, lots of dried fruits, caramel, candi sugar and warming brown rum-like alcohol. Full body, oily-syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Sweet, rich and satisfying; I guess the ageing really toned down the herbal-spicy notes.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit (dates, figs), treacle, dried apricots, dark rye bread, caramel and herbs (anise, a touch of mint). Malty, fruity, spicy taste with notes of dried figs, dates, treacle, coffee, black rye bread, anise, liquorice, caramel, hints of mint and a mild spicy bitterness in a warming finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex, tasty and warming. Very nice.

750 ml corked and crowned bottle. Mahogany brown pour has a small creamy beige head that disappates quickly. Toasted malt nose is redolent of dark dried fruits and licorice. Flavor is soft and spicy, with more dried fruit and anise. Very little carbonation. High alcohol is only noticeable in finish, but is subtle and warming. Herbal hops in finish as well.
