Keep a sturdy grip on this hand-wrought ale. It is an alloy of premium two-row Alberta barley, roasted to a black malt and infused with quantities of potent, bitter hops. Stalwart and bold, it will douse the coal-fired thirst, slake the spirit and clear the soot from the teeth.

0.33l bottle. Pours dark chestnut brown with a brown cream. Light roast and hop bitter nose. Medium full chewy body, pleasant mix of lightly roasted flavours, maple, coffee, dark chocolate, fitting hop counterpoint. moreish.

Medium brown, aroma is porterish with toasty, slightly roasty malts, taste the same, with modest bitterness...a good, slightly hoppy porter.

Mahogany color. Nice chololate, dry nose. Light mouth chocolate, but not the lightness of a lager. Very low hops. Like a schwarz on ale yeast.

Keg at National Beer Hall, Calgary. It pours deep brown, with a thick light beige head. The nose is roasted malt, light charcoal and filter coffee. The taste is roasted malt, toast, caramel, soft dark fruit, light charcoal, vinous aspect and chocolate, with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Decent
