Keep a sturdy grip on this hand-wrought ale. It is an alloy of premium two-row Alberta barley, roasted to a black malt and infused with quantities of potent, bitter hops. Stalwart and bold, it will douse the coal-fired thirst, slake the spirit and clear the soot from the teeth.

Growler purchased at metro liquors in calgary. Black pour, medium brown head. Roasted malts, light coffee, and some slight, very slight piney hops. Mouth feel os a little heavy and the carb underwhelming. This is basically a slightly hopper porter, not great, but also not bad.

On tap. Pours a reddish brown color with light fizzy head. Aromas of copper and sweet toasted malts. Flavors follow same with more dust and metal. Biscuity finish. Nothing to write home about.

There’s no way this is a black IPA. Bad for style like Cinderella. Dark brown pour with decent head and lacing. Tap at Molson Brewhouse at Calgary airport.

Had both Village brews in a pub in Alberta. Pours a deep copper brown colour, see-through, clean with a beige head and decent lacing. Nutty aromas with roasted malt notes and mild caramel, coffee. Roasty flavours with fruity notes, light hops in the finish. Decent easy-going brew.

Bouteille(Merci, Joss!): Deep ruby-amber coloured, clear, small creamy off-white head; mild toasty-caramelly and fruity nose with a slight metallic and a delicate hoppy background; moderate dryish bitter-sweet flavour, soft; slightly lingering mild toasty and caramelly finish. O.K. …

330 ml bottle. Pours an opaque, dark brown with ruby highlights and an average, short lived, light brown head that laces. Roasted malt aroma with coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee with a mildly dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Not bad.
