Oudenaards Bruin, mixed fermention beer, mixing of at least 1 year old matured beer with young, top-fermented beer, centrifuged, filtered. It used to be brewed at the Clarysse Brewery (Oudenaarde), which closed its doors in 2003 as a brewery and continued merely as a liquor store. Has since been brewed under contract at the Verhaeghe Brewery.

The current version of the classic Felix oud bruin, brewed by colleague Verhaeghe since the very regrettable shutdown of the Clarysse brewery in 2002. Light beige, creamy, moussy head, dark brown colour with warm ruby hue. Sweet fruit aroma suffused by a soft sourishness, impressions of raisins, passion fruit, sweet honey, brown sugar, sour cream, brambleberries, medium dry sherry, some oak. Soft malty and fruity taste, initially sweet but turning lemon- and even a bit vinegar-like sourish which never becomes really sharp, just a mellow, fresh tartness, slowly merging with a caramelly and somewhat toasted maltiness, finishing in a dry sourishness, complex, bit woody and very agreeable. Definitely different from Clarysse’s original version, but in good hands, as Verhaeghe is still one of the leading oud bruin makers - fortunately.

Pours clear dark brown with a small, tan head. The aroma contains malt, cherry, vinegar, raisin and bread. It tastes light fruity sweet and medium sour with a light dry finish - good balance. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Decent. (Edited 25/7/17)

Flasche (33 cl) von Hopduvel, Gent. - Dunkles Kastanienbraun, rasch schwindender beigefarbener Schaum.

25cl bottle @ home. Dark brown color with a deep dark red glow coming through. Big creamy, thick, long lasting beige head that leaves a good lacing. Smell malts and a bit sour, slightly sweaty. Taste malts, sourish, grape-peel and a slight hint of fruitpeel-bitterness. Low to medium body and carbonation.

--> sehr interessantes Bier!
