U.S. Open Beer Champion – named “Best Hefeweizen in America” by the Craft Beer News Service. Classic aromas of banana, clove and floral citrus blossom. Fruity, spicy aromas show a rich yeasty character that follows through on a smooth, medium-bodied palate with a delicately spicy finish.

HISTORY

This summer specialty is made with fifty percent malted wheat for a clean, light, refreshing character, plus a special Bavarian yeast that creates the classic cloudy appearance and banana, clove, and lemon character. To decant from the bottle, pour three-quarters of the bottle into a glass and gently shake the remaining contents to mix the yeast back into the beer and then top off your glass. Delicious with a slice of lemon but we prefer it au natural.

Our Bliss artwork features a lion (the symbol of Bavaria) front and center. We went with the striped tent and carnival scene in the background to bring together the great midwest summertime traditions of county fairs and amusement parks with Munich’s Oktoberfest – the mac daddy of all festivals signaling the end of summer.

Hazy golden coloured body with a very thin pure white head. Aroma of corn, lavender, yeast, curacao and some bananas - very nice! Medium-bodied; Strong yeast and bananas in the taste with wheat and a mild sweetness to finish it up. Aftertaste has definite citrus fwangs with a light yeastie feel and a mild spice. Overall, seemingly nice and refreshing, well-rounded and complex. Not the best I’ve had for the style, but not a bad beer and certainly above average - worth trying! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 03-August-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 16-October-2008.

tap at brewpub - Pours hazy yellow with a thin head. The aroma has a little citrus and some quite noticeable spiciness that put me in mind of nutmeg. The flavor is light and citrusy. Carbonation is light and it has a clean finish. Not bad.

Sample at the brewpub: Pours a somewhat opaque yellow color with virtually no head or lacing. The aroma is wheaty and fruity. Light body with banana and wheat flavors up front, followed by mild hops and spice. The finish is fruity and soft, and does not leave much aftertaste. Slightly above average all around.

Pours a medium cloudy bright yellow, with some soft orange hues. Smallish white head. Smells of hay, lemon, mild coriander. Begins with a big moderately syrupy lemon/sugar flavor with some wheat and hops coming in afterwards. Body is lightly spritzy which adds a spicy texture to complement the style. Finish dries somewhat and loses alot of flavor, with just some mildly sour yeast. Some graininess.
