Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

Draught at Q-Brick. Clear golden with an amber tint and a nice fine head. Nose is Spicy Belgian yeast, biscuity malt, citrus-orange, grass. Sweet and fruit with orange, honey, and big grassy bitterness. refreshing and drinkable, hiding its alcohol well. Good stuff.

Thanks to GT2! Pours a golden, slightly amber colour, only a little cloudy. Some head retention, good lacing. Smells more like a triple, tastes more like an IPA in this marriage. Their are the floral hops of a good triple and the bitterness of an IPA but I almost feel like the IPA side of things eclipses the subtlety of the triple. It’s a good mix, but since I tend to prefer the triple style I wouldn’t consider it as highly as more traditional triples. A very good drink, nonetheless.

Bomber. Pours hazy orange with a huge cream-colored pillowy head that takes its sweet time receding; leaves some awesome decorative lacework. The first thing to hit the nose is the Belgian yeast, which imparts clove, old books, and a little banana. The American hops take a backseat; there’s a bit of citrus hiding in there, but it’s pretty faint. Taste is as described: an interesting union of the two styles. It’s lightly sweet and a bit meaty but it turns bitter quickly and remains that way through the finish; the bitterness lingers. Carbonation is medium and the body is full. It tastes like an extra bitter Tripel. I would have liked more PacNW hop flavor here--citrus, pine, resin, but this is really good.

Bottle, 22oz, at Patricks. It pours an unclear, golden-orange body under an inch of dense off-white head. Sweetish, fruity nose with a biscuity touch and some orange. American style hops lurks in the back. It’s full-bodied, smooth and with a light warming touch on the palate. Nice bitterness in the flavor, along with sweet maltyness, fruityness and a touch of caramel. Lasting bitterness in the finish. A nice beer indeed, I suspect it has lost a bit on bit on its way across the Atlantic, as it is not very crisp, but it’s still a nice one. 120202

Bottle. Clear gold with a huge white head that last pretty well. Aroma of dough, oranges, cloves, vanilla. Sweet with oranges and light caramel before sharp citrus and pine with some spices. Plenty of bitterness. A little alcohol at the end too. The hops crash through - I can’t really tell how short of dry it finishes - and it’s not an elegant drop, but it does what it promises.

650 ml bottle @ Patricks. Hazy orange body with a big, creamy off-white head. Aroma of hay, biscuit and sweet orange jam. Flavor is fruity and bitter with soft malt flavor. Fine body and a fruity bitter aftertaste. Quite robust and bitter, like it.
