Le Freak is a modern ale created by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. The use of two yeast strains further marries the styles and American hops give the beer its modern flare.

650ml bottle. Clear orangey golden colour with average, firm, frothy, lasting, white head. Slightly sweet fruity, strawy and yeasty aroma has notes of lychee, citrus, tangerine. Taste is yeasty, tart, minimally sweet fruity, dry and bitter hoppy overtones. Very nice composition.

Draught at the brewery. Hazy, amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus, banana, bubble gum, grapefruit, mango and cereal. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of banana, citrus and cereal. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Works OK, but too bananany for my taste.

On tap at Taco Mac Perimeter. Pours a light gold with a thin head. The aroma is lemons, light grassy hops, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet. The palate is medium, sugary, and syrupy. Overall, this is a sugary mess, but not too bad.

Bottle. Pour is a rich gold with a massive head at first, but it dies down in a few minutes, leaving white suds covering the side of the glass. Aromas are heavy with bananas, cloves, honey and maybe oranges. Flavors of sweet honey and orange blossoms dominate, but it has a pretty decent banana and clove edge as well as a decent bitterness for the style. Nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours clear golden with a huge white head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, hoppy and slightly funky with pineapple, mango, passion fruit, dry soil, hay, mandarin oranges, lemon zest, yeasty esters, pears in sugar syrup, wheat crackers, biscuits and hints of blue cheese, barnyard and plums. Taste is sweet and slightly bitter with crackers, orange peal, ammonium chloride, gunpowder, pine, freshly cut grass, resin, plums, mango, yeasty esters, barnyard, pears, green apples, green grapes , vine gums, alcohol and liquorice root. Mouthfeel is round, dry, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with fresh grass, orange zest, dry soil, mango, crackers and pine.Β

Purchased at Armanettiβs in Chicago, IL, enjoyed on a cool Wednesday night while making some dinner. Appearance is a slightly cloudy bright gold with a rich frothy white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is hoppy and spicy from the Belgian ale yeast which gives it a slight soapy smell, but not really offputting. Taste is pretty good, Belgian yeast adds light banana and clove notes, extra hops adds a piney like quality. Pretty good stuff, definitely tastes like a new style.
