0.75l bottle thanks to Lore. Brown body with a yolk head. Smooth caramel, nutmeg, cocoa and wood aroma. In the taste some cherries and green apples show up too. Rounded, complex, nice. Exciting version of the beer. The sour character is much more evident in this beer. Very nice as the others.

Dark brown colour with reddish hue. Aroma has lots of sweet red fruits and dried fruits. Flavour is also fruity and has intense sweet fruitiness. The finish brings a light sharpness and delicate woody dryness.

28 April 2018, at Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke.
Hazy brown with a small, foamy, tan head; little lacing. Inviting aroma of port, red wine, red grapes, dark chocolate, nuts, caramel. It tastes medium malty sweet with 'powdery' chocolate hints, light fruity & port-like sour, developing a light roasted bitterness. Dryish, port-like, bit sour finish with warming winey alcohol. Full body, slick to oily texture, fizzy carbonation. I was disappointed to miss out on the BA Whisky version, as I'm not really a port or wine fan, but this was an enjoyable sipper.

Bouteille 75cl, courtesy of Tderoeck. Dommage.

I remember talking to the Silly people (no pun intended!) at the Horecabeurs of Ghent a couple of years ago and recommending them to honour some of their recipes by making luxury, large bottle versions of them - and I like to flatter myself by thinking I may have contributed to the birth of this one as a result. Anyway, all vanity aside, this beer shows a yellowish beige, stable head over a dark bronze hue with certain haziness. The nose gets lots of dark and candied fruits, caramel, liquorice, some spicy yeastiness, vanilla-like oak tannins, some coffee and port wine. Bitter sweet taste, candied fruits, caramelly malt base, port wine accent and dry, woody finish with gentle roasted bitterness. Apparently this is only the second version, but I have yet to try the Bordeaux barrel aged edition. In any case: wonderful winter warmer, I’m already a fan of the regular version, but this is surely an improvement of it. Love it!

Bottle at PIB, pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of caramel malt upfront, with a subtle touch of port barrels. Flavour is full-bodied bringing out some slightly tart dark fruits, a little toffee, and some tart port wine. The tartest of the Scotch de Silly beers. Drinkable, but not the most elegant.

Pours deep mahogany into a thistle. Tan micro head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Caramel, toffee, vanilla and grape aromas. Dark caramel and mildly tart cherry front to back. Warming bitter earth finish.
