India Pale Ale
Ever met a New Belgium Beer Ranger? They are our beloved folks out in the field. Spanning all 29 of our states from the Pacific to the Atlantic, our Beer Rangers do their best to protect, to pour and to partake. And explore many a beer from many a brewery, they do.
Bring out the hops! This clear amber beauty bursts at the starting gate with an abundance of hops: Cascade (citrus), Chinook (floral/citrus), and Simcoe (fruity) lead off the beer, with Cascade added again for an intense dry hop flavor. Brewed with pale and dark caramel malts that harmonize the hop flavor from start to finish, Ranger is a sessionable splendor for all you hopinistas. Thank your Beer Ranger!

Can at Bishops Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Pours clear orange with a medium head, leaving only lacings but no foam. Aroma is strong pine and some tropical citric fruit, resin, bark. Body is medium, strong resin, decent sweetness, with an oily texture dominating a lively carbonation in the background. Lasting sweet pine needle palate. Good.

Bottled 655ml (from Shell in Austin 2.99$). Clear golden color, good white head and lace. Piney, citrusy aroma. Medium-bodied. Lots of piney hops in the flavor. Pale malty sweetish backbone. Long lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice hop bomb.

Bottle, drunk Winter 2013.
Clear, copper-amber. Feeble off-white head.
Bready, grainy, lightly sour and oxidized, always oxidized....Stale hops add pepper and orange peel. Vanilla lingers...
Wow, this is an IPA? Even if you made the lame "But it’s an English IPA!" argument (which they don’t even bother to do), this still wouldn’t cut it. Just another bad amber ale-ish sort of thing from this horrendous brewery. Bready, oxidized, overcarbonated with fizzy carbonation. Poorly textured, not malty, etc...etc...etc...

Working my way through the New Belgium oeuvre with Ranger. A 12 oz. bottle poured into a tall clear stein. Delivers a light head that is replenished by some active carbonation, leaves some nice laces later. Has a pretty, golden body enhanced by the streams of bubbles. Scent of citrus, not overpowering. The first taste is a spike of lemon and some following woodiness. The hops give way to a bitter finish. Pleasant but not enthralling. There are other readily available IPAs I will go to first. But I will certainly buy this again.

Nice, slightly hazy but still golden-amber pour. Aroma is fresh, displaying all of these nice American hops, almost like a hop.cheesecake. Drinks very easy, not overly frith but yeast is playing nicely, together with strong hop character that beer has. Nice and drinkable IPA; ho injection that satisfies you for some time.

Bottle, bb 7/17. Clear golden amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine needles, some tropical notes, hints of onion. Very sweet with little discernible malt character (some biscuit I guess) but lots of fruit and pine. The earthy and tropical elements I’m not so keen on, but the bitter and piney finish pulls it back together. Fairly feisty hops but the blend didn’t do that much for me and there’s nothing much else to the beer.

12oz bottle on Sunday 29th May 2016, while on holiday in California. Amber/orange coloured brew, the head a white wispy affair. Nice hop blend, refreshing and bitter: liked it.
