Old rating - A 500ml bottle from Waitrose, still in date. Pours a very dark brown with next to no head. Aromas & tastes of chocolate, vanilla, lactose & sweet malt. Medium body with very little carbonation. Sweet malty finish. Decent & enjoyable even if it was a little out of condition.

Batch 24. Malts: Golden Promise, Chocolate, DRC, Roasted Barley, Flaked Malted Oats, Wheat. Yeast: Surebrew YS020. Hop: Mount Hood. Bottle from Bierkoning. Aroma is dark malt, powdery milk chocolate, vanilla, creamy milky lactose, cocoa, oats, nutty notes, hint of roast. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is thin, fairly watery, with some milky creaminess and low carbonation. Some nice flavours in there, but a bit too watery for my taste.

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with minimal tan head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly roast malts with just a trace of vanilla. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy texture. Flavour of oats, lactose and roasted malts plus hints of chocolate, porridge and cola. A little bitterness in the finish. This is decent.

(Draught at Mother Kelly's Vauxhall, London, 21 May 2023) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of milky chocolate, black coffee and black bread. Malty, roasted taste with milky chocolate, coffee, black bread, liquorice and a generous cacao bitterness. Medium body, with a certain milky sweetness. On the sweet side, but really rich and tasty. Very nice.

Can from Waitrose - scanning the barcode let me to the 5.1% version, but the label says 5.6%. Jet black pour with a small white head. Aromas of cocoa, milk/cream, vanilla, slightly boozy. Taste is malt, cocoa , cream, vanilla, sweet bread with a slightly bitter finish. Not bad.
