25/IV/20 - 44cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 22/I/23 (2020-371)
Clear purple brown beer, thick creamy beige to yellow head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: fruity, red fruits, berries, nice acidic impression, bit malty, some dried fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice acidity, pretty bitter, malty notes, roasted touch, dried fruits, some caramel, nice acidity, clean and refreshing, some red fruits. Aftertaste: tannins, pretty dry, nice bitterness, lactic acidity, slightly roasted, red fruits, this is like a Rodenbach on Steroids, lovely stuff!!
Paired with tomate-crevette, a belgian dish consisting of a peeled hollowed out tomato, stuffed with tiny brown shrimp and mayo. Very good pairing.

'Sour quadrupel' - so basically a strong 'oud bruin' - brewed by Tanker with the collaboration of Dok Brewing Company in Ghent, Belgium. From tap at Dok's premises in Hal 16, Dok Noord, Ghent. Mousy, medium thick but quickly dissipating, pale greyish beige, open and loose head on a lightly hazy dark copper-bronze beer with ruby red hue. Aroma of sugared balsamico, candied cherries, dry earth, sweet sherry, caramel candy, plum jam, rosehip tea, rosé wine, passionfruit, toffee. Sweet and sour onset, fizzy carbonation, impressions of dried fig, black cherries and blackberries; smooth and notably resinous mouthfeel, full and slick. Hard-caramelly maltiness, sweetish but nowhere sugary and even developing a mild toasty-bitterish edge towards the finish, while underneath a lactic sourishness runs, but gently so; long-lasting aspects of sweet cherry, diluted balsamico and elderberry syrup, highlighted by a warming alcohol presence and some vague, earthy, bit herbal hoppiness adding low bitterness (as is custom in oud bruin). Interesting, the sour aspect remains a bit superficial and simplistic here but does carry a slightly oud bruin-like character into the beer - but some of the flavours seem to clash a bit as well, so I think this should improve a bit with age when the flavours get more intertwined. Could have been a decent quad without the sour aspect too, I think...
