Bottle at Leeuw aan de brug, Valkenburg a/d Geul poured in to an slightly curved glass. Clear golden coloured brew with an not yet annoying sweet bitter taste, slightly annoying sweet hints of something like sweet corn and caramel.

The follow-up to Haacht’s original Adler Dortmunder, with cobweb-lacing, snow white, medium sized stable head over deep ’old gold’ coloured beer, cristal clear with low amounts of sparkling. Malt-forward and simple aroma of cooked corn, cookies, some sweaty grains, hint of white bread and grass, as well as the unmistakable skunked smell of ammonia, luckily fading away within moments. Fairly neutral, malt and corn sweetish taste with no esters as expected from a lager, soft carbo, grainy and malt sweet, slightly biscuity finish with low hop bitterness. The old version deserved its place as one of the last remaining Belgian Dortmunders, a lager style which was notably more popular here many a decade ago, but in this form with lower ABV and thinner body, it has become something in between a standard pale lager and a Dortmunder, thus becoming redundant for either category. They had better kept it like it was, if you ask me.

It’s an okay lager. Quite a strong aroma. Some light malts and a bit of bitterness in the finish.

Draft in The Green, Brugge on 31st Jan 2014: a bar majoring on Haacht brewed beers. Typical golden Pilsner found all over the world, clean and clear: the white head stayed a while for change, unlike a lot of it’s counterparts. Not much aroma, hints of grain and hay, but weak. The beer is refreshing but lacks flavour, slightly sweet with a mild maltiness but otherwise forgettable in every way. I had it to calm down before a heavy evening session, I’ll not be having another. A Mr Average Pilsner with no redeeming features or characteristics.

25 cl. bottle sampled @ ’t Einde in Gent. BBF 22/07/2014. Oooh this is “Premium” & “Luxus”! Wtf? That is just hilarious. Pours a clear amber with a white head. Nose is iron, pale lager grains, white sugar & artificial sweeteners sweet. Sweet taste with white sugar, iron, malts, faint caramel & herbs and actually some distinguishable hops. Light bodied & watery. For a pale lager this is actually not bad.
