Sampled at Wieze 2017. The version I had was - to my knowledge - brewed at Boelens. Probably the same rating? Pours unclear blonde. Small white head. Smell is weak, bit sweet. Taste is rather full, malty, sweet, bit weak. OK. Surprisingly the beer it’s quality is alright, since Boelens has many problems, but the beer itself (recipe) is quite boring as well.

Tripel created in 2015 by a new beer company called Egidius Bieren, named after a late family member and elected as best hobby brew of Eastern Flanders two years ago; apparently hopped with Willamette. Medium thick, lacing, off-white, bubbly head, hazy peach blonde robe with somewhat greenish hue. Aroma of stewed pear, pineapple, coriander, rotting lemon, stale mandarin juice, piccalily, gin, white grape peel. Crisp, fruity onset, hints of peach, apple and light banana ester, medium carbo, full but slick mouthfeel. Cereally, bit grainy malt core with softer bready edges, spicy finish due to a combination of soapy coriander, (too) mildly citrus peel-like hop bitterness and ’jenever’-like alcohol along with subtle phenols. The eternal coriander strikes again, but fortunately not overly harshly; I personally would have opted to omit this spice altogether and use more of the Willamette, but in this form, this is a perfectly acceptable, albeit hardly innovative Belgian ale.
