Sampled in celebration of the Belgians winning 5-2 against Tunisia in the FIFA World Cup 2018 on 23-June-2018 in Russia. Deep dark brown coloured body with a slightly muddied glow and a good two centimetre tall light brown and tan head that fades quite quickly and just leaves a thin layer on top. Aroma of alcohol, pure pitted fruits, raisins, figs, dates, yeast, bread, grapes and a noticeable dose of honey and earth as well on the tail end. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with an obtuse and unexpected dry flavour at first that shows an abrubt yeast flavour that hits hard and fast at first that also shows the vinous and wine notes from a very dry wine barrel, it seems with some more noticeable sweet flavours from the pitted fruits right behind with a dash of white pepper, cedar and a light earthiness noticeable at the end as well. Aftertaste is less complex and more focused on the dry, barrel aged notes that almost show pure oak, but some vinous notes, but no real sweetness, which is crazy, because it's all in the nose, some earth and grain with a touch of nuts as well, but almost finishing with a burn from the alcohol since there is nothing else in support of that, just the dryness. Overall, an interesting beer that really shows the oak barrel aging and only so much of the wine notes, but also a lot of yeast characteristics and not too much complexity from malt, sugars or especially hops which aren't noticeable anywhere here (which is fine, just noticeable at the end when thinking about the entire product). Not a bad beer to sample, and if I did this again, I'd probably go the exact same way, but sort-of worth the room in my suitcase for this one across the Atlantic. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Bier Tempel in Bruxelles, Belgium on 18-January-2015 for €4,00 sampled at home in Washington, celebrating Belgium's 5-2 win on 23-January-2018.

25/3/2018. Bottle from Boxbeers. Pours dark brown with a short lasting off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits, prunes, plum jam, toffee, light roasted malt, red wine, oak, dark chocolate and hint of cherry. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness. Full body, slight oily texture, above average carbonation. Enjoyable, aside from that carbonation level.

Deep hazy brown with three finger beige foam, dissipates slowly leaving no lacings. Aroma is big, with dried fruit, sugar, green apple, white wine dryness. Taste is sweet with roasted and sweet malt, then green apples going to dryer touch showing the barrel character, a slight burning alcohol feel in the finish. Big body, medium carbo. Solid! Nice mix of heavy sweet notes paired with fresher wine-ish green apple notes.

33cl Bottle from Prik&Tik Baelus. Brown colour, beige head. Aroma is tart, forest fruits, cinnamon, acetic acid, red wine, dark malts, liquorice. Flavour follows, more malty and liquorice, quite sour, sweet-sour finish with some acetic bitterness, wood. Medium bodied at best. Lots of red wine influences, but also bordering on infected. Nice though.
