Hazy, golden color and a white head. Overripe tropical fruit, caramel, sweetness. Taste follows the nose. Sweet tropical fruits, well hidden alcohol. Nice work guys

Bottle picked up from Etre Gourmet, Grez-Doiceau, Belgium and consumed at home, Wednesday 19th August 2020 cooking a very lazy, Fish Fingers, Chips and Mushy Peas. Pours dark amber with an off white head, soft mouthfeel, hoppiness very apparent. I am unsure what Guarana is so cannot properly explain what that is about, I tend to get citrus, bitterness and an underlying big malty belly. Good.

8/VIII/20 - 33cl bottle from Au Village Gourmand (Dinant) @ my Social Distancing BBQ, BB: V/2021 (2020-745)
Clear orange beer, small irregular off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit soapy, tropical fruits, dank notes, sticky hops, lots of caramel malts. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: nice bitterness, caramel, fruity touch, bit sweet. Aftertaste: sweet, caramel malts, hoppy as well, resinous, alcohol notes, very old school American DIPA from the earlier days of craft beer. Love it!

Bouteille 33cl, BB 05/2021, lot#005/20.

One of Atrium’s newest beers, a DIPA flavoured with guarana, a South American plant species, the seeds of which have been used locally for centuries as a stimulant (and in our time even in soft drinks) because of its high concentrations of caffeine. Thick and frothy, snow white, lightly lacing, mousy head on a misty amber-orange beer with glowing coppery hue, turning a bit more ‘dirty-orangey’ with sediment. Lovely, expressive aroma of fresh orange peel, paprika powder, ‘meloenjenever’, Grand Marnier, dry biscuit, chorizo, candied pineapple, caramel, gin, pepper. Cleanly sweet onset, orange candy with a dash of melon, softishly carbonated with a vinous, thickly oily body; thick caramelly and biscuity malt sweetness in the middle with an even somewhat sticky marmalade-like side effect, but balanced by a long, peppery, spicy finish, offering orange zest and candied mango effects retronasally and, combined with the alcohol, a Grand Marnier-ish effect on the root of the tongue; lots of old-fashioned citrusy hop bitterness lingers, while a subtle meaty touch of fried barbecue sausages adds some complexity. The guarana could account for part of the flavour – a almost Red Bull-like ‘echo’ lurks in the background – but did not truly create a stimulating effect, other than the excitement of being confronted with a really good DIPA, reminiscent of the style’s earlier days. I adore this kind of IPAs – this is one of Atrium’s very best creations to me so far.
