Jez, what happened to this beer. I was expecting some crap but I got some heavenly aromas of something not resembling a black and tan. This may be a pretty old bottle but I see no dating. Pours very dark brown with no head and just some lacing ringing around. Aroma is strong - and I would say more like an English Strong. Very malty, prune raison fruitiness, some vanilla. Taste is more subdued version with that fruitiness and vanilla coming in the end. Low bitterness, mouthfeel is smoother b/c of lower carbonation.

Dark brown in colour with a fairly thick tan head. Actually fairly clear, only about 80% opaque. Strong hop aroma, which was a bit of a treat, along with dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Medium to Light-bodied; Taste of roasted malt along with the caramel sweetness and none of the hops noted in the smell. Aftertaste shows a slight metal twang and a mild malt bitterness. Overall, a decent beer, but I don't typically like 'mixed' Black & Tans served in bottles. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

I can't recall ever having a Black & Tan in a bottle that I enjoyed, and this beer stays with the trend. Dark brown with a medium light tan head. Thin lacing. Aroma is of light malt and a tiny bit of chocolate. The beer is on the watery side and has a rather bland roasted coffee flavor along with some caramel and malt. The finish is kind of weak and dry. I lost interest halfway through this one.

Cherrywood colour; slight toast, cocoa, wood aroma; light body; slightly woody, earthy accent. Finishes quickly. There are a lot of these pre-fab black & tans in PA, NY and ON, but I''m not sure what the appeal is. They always come off like a half-assed porter to me.
