12 ounce bottle shared by BrewEngineer at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. This has some age on it, but I’m not sure how much. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, honey, nutty notes. The taste is roasted malts, bitter hops, honey, coffee, nutty notes. Full bodied. Nice beer.

Deep dark brown body with a slightly soapy tan head with about 80% opacity - nice! Aroma of fresh soap, citrus (wierd, I KNOW!), malt, coffee and even some passion fruit. Full-bodied; Strong malty flavour with alcohol and coffee coming out a bit - but a largely mild aftertaste leaves the palate seemingly refreshed. Aftertaste shows more character - nuts, roasted malt, coffee and alcohol definitely come through. Overall, a lighter imperial stout, but still potent. Good, but not great! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Goebel Liquor in Wichita, Kansas on 25-March-2008 and sampled it a month later.

bottle, my 100th Colorado beer rating - Pours very dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is fairly mild for the style but still has some good dark roast malt along with a little alcohol. The flavor is very chocolate accented roast malt with hops that balance the finish well. It’s not as thick or complex as many imperial stouts, so in that sense is disappointing, but it still tastes good and if you’re new to the style, you might be interested to know it’s one of the easier drinking ones.

Very nice brew as an extra from Beer&Blues, thanks Brad. Its all black with a small light tan head that leaves an average lacing. Was not going to rate it but I have been slowly enjoying this all evening. My bottle says 8.2% but the label is exactly the same (stamped 2/2008). Aroma is medium ashy roast and some light bittered chocolate; just a hint of bittered piny hops. Taste has a bit of prune, sweet dark malts and a short hint of bitterness at the end. Just working so perfectly right now for me, not overbearing, prefect for sipping, strong but not overly aggressive. The mouthfeel is a bit too stingy and mineral but otherwise enought body to be felt but not thick.
12oz bottle, a few pours into a 3oz snifter, just for fun.

Bottled (Thanks heemer77!). Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown creamy head. Lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, some smoked wood, coffee and dark dry fruits. Flavour is very much the same with very toffeeish hints. Very roasted and smoked aftertaste. Also some slight salted licorace. Really lovely.

Bottle. All black pour, with a swirling tan head that disappeared at normal pace. Aroma is roasted malt and dark chocolate. Roasted malt and coffee taste. Not a huge body like many imperial stouts, balance was OK on this one, nothing out of the park. Alcohol aroma and taste became present as it warmed.

Thanks again to Brewfiend. I got a lot of coffee from this beer in the nose and the flavor. Thick and black but lightly carbonated. Bitter coffee and chocolate in the flavor as well as malt, but this is not there in any quantity and is very light.

Pretty nice on the whole, very characterful, although I’m not blown away by it. Starts with a deep garnet-black color and a nice full creamy beige head and soft lacing. Aroma mildly acrid with soured chocolate milk and light roast malt. There is perhaps an element of light citric or grassy hop in there. Nice medium-full mouthfeel, with a good chocolate, coffee and roast beginning. Not in the least overtly sweet, although a tinge of caramel and acidity rise through the middle, leaving a slightly acidic and dry finish. Very well built, modest strength and robustness, but thats very OK by me. I just feel there could be a little more depth, and I think the acidity might detract somewhat.
