This is the third time I have picked up a bottle of this beer. Spanish Peaks has never interested me before, particularly because of their crappy fruit-wheat concoctions. However, a few weeks ago I just needed an extra single to fill in a mix 6 pack, so I got it. Two times back to the store and each time I got it again. I don’t know, is it possible that Flying Dog combined with Spanish peaks could actually make something good. But on with the beer...
It pours a dusty yellow, by dusty I mean its a clear beer, not hazy but it presents a lot of tiny dust-like particles suspended in the body. The beer has a small head with a slightly sticky lacing and a few bubbles that shoot through the beer. Interestingly enough, the bottom of the bottle pour really muddies the beer, which is surprising since I figure this to be highly filtered. Aroma is present with a doughy sweet yeastiness (just what I like in anything light, golden, and Belgian). Also, as the description states, just a touch of [herbal] coriander. Taste is light Belgian sweetness with more of the coriander aspect than the aroma suggests but neither flavor one-ups the other. A very nice meld of flavors to go along with a light-medium body that has a soft palate with just a few little spikes hitting the cheeks here and there. I don’t know what it is about this beer but it just resonates so well with me. Jez, I am really going against the curve with this one. Quaffable, recommended, and returnable.
12oz bottle, new 10th Anniversary Ommegang thinner elongated goblet glass (just got it in a gift pack and wanted to use it).

Aroma of lemon, banana, coriander ... Gold color with a decent white head that does weird lacing things. Thin in body, mildly creamy in carbonation. The flavors are banana, lemon and arguably coriander in that order. The spice dominates the finish. Seems to be a hint of bitter, but it could be citrus rind. Good stuff, all in all.

Poured a sediment filled gold color with white head. The aroma is citrus-lemon, candi sugar, clove spice and biscuit malt mixed with bread. The flavor is tart at first then becomes fruity with grapes, lemon, lime, a slice or two of apple, yeast, clove like spices and a faint malt backbone.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is nice with tons of coriander and yeast. Flavor is a little weaker with some oragne peel showing up but nothing really else. Stil this is a just ok example of the style. Nothing great but not to bad.

Aroma begins lightly fruity, then quite a bit of phenolic clove. This makes no sense but I want to say there’s a smoky BBQ component. WTF? its mild and maybe I’m out to lunch here, but its like smoked sausage. Spicy phenols in the flavor, with a good medium body, and quite fizzy with a mild carbonic bite. Hazed pale yellow color, modest head but impressive lacing. An OK wit.

Bottle. Spice (coriander) with banana. Flavor has a spice, lemon (citrus) and yeast flavor. A pretty decent Witbier (though I’m partial to witbier). A good, decent addition by Flying Dog.

Brewed by Saratoga Springs Brew. Co., NY. Bottle at Maxfields, Potsdam, NY. Fresh wheat and spiceed aroma, but not marked. Hazy yellow blonde with a creamy white head. Light lemony white beer with some fresh wheat but very light and watery.

200? Bottle. Pours a light honey yellow, as if I’ve mixed honey and water. No head, maybe a touch of sediment? Aroma is flowery, light, honeysuckles, coriander and just a light touch of tangerine. Flavor is peppery at the start (not overly so) with a touch of bitter and astringent notes from the spices and then a very smooth, watery body with light malts and honey. I do get some peach esters, which are pleasant and there is a refreshing crisp bite at the end (also quite light). Perhaps no belgian yeast apparency, but it’s a thirst quenching light session ale, that I wouldnt mind drinking again.
