As a style porters aren’t the biggest name in beer (not really close though they should be) but this brew is a big contender among culinary journalists, reviewers, and beer geeks. It’s got a big dark bouquet of chocolate, coffee and caramel and has a smooth finish. A Powerhouse of a Porter.

Pours dark brown, small head of foam. Smells of roasted malt and bitter chocolate. I do get some sweet notes so the chocolate isn’t all that bitter.
Taste has the smells in order though I do sense a mild coffee taste. Good beer.

Bottle: Almost black, with a small tan head. Slightly oily, chocolate, vegetal aroma. Taste is lactic, chocolate malt. Fairly bitter.....again, that oily, vegetable note comes through. The scent is a little off-putting....the flavor is slightly better, but overall, not one I’d repeat.

Bottle. Sour milk, coffee/chocolate malt, and straw aroma. Very dark brown with small brown head. Mildly sweet chocolate malt and moderately bitter ash/dry hay flavor. Okay body. A bit light but not bad.

Bottle on RBSG Bus. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is cocoa and bready malt. Medium body, cocoa, roast, dry finish, ok.

Bottle: Deep chestnut brown pour with a small tan head. Mild nose is roast and cocoa, continuing into the taste. The English porter influence is subtle and appreciated; good roast, cocoa, and a faint bittersweet to go along with a small amount of sour. Clean finish, but it does border on being chalky. Overall nicely done.

Bottle, has sat around for a while, but fairly climate controlled at least. Pours dark ruby black, medium brown head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is quite chocolatey, roast, ashtray. Flavor is medium sweet, chocolate, light bitter. Not bad at all, actually. Medium body, nice effort.

Bottle. My last state tick! Thanks to Pawola22. Pours black with light off white head. Nose/taste or roast black malt, toasted chocolate malt and light roast coffee. Finishes very dry with some roast. Medium body.
