From cask @ Borefts 2013. Deep and dark brown in the glass and the head is not something to write home about. Not on Ratebeer either I guess. Smells really nice with a good amount of cocoa and fresh coffee. Dark light roasted all the way and there might even be a vanilla hint here. Smells nice. Really like the coffee touch. Oh, it's a wobbly taste. Do I like or do dislike it. Well, as always I wish it could at least have a hint of carbonation when thy come from the cask, but this is dead flat. Can confidently say that the vanilla was no hoax. It's really present in the taste. As is sweet chocolate and a little bit of coffee. Fresh grounded coffee that is. Bubblegum, the sweet kind in the finish. Interesting stuff. Could easily find is ha pint of this, but please give me at least a hint of carbonation! 27.09.2013

Jet black colour, beige head. Vanilla aroma, malts, chocolate, caramel and spices. Light, sweet flavour, vanilla, malts and coffee. Quite sweet finish, vanilla. Nice, but I was hoping for a bit more.

Cask at Cross Scythes, Sheffield. (The place best suited to try this?). Very nearly black, thin, but tight, lasting, tan head. Lots of dark chocolate, roast malt. Some dark fruit, and a hint of spice (from the rum, you’d imagine?). Taste is a fruity, malt loaf kind of dryness. Roast coffee and dark chocolate on the finish. For me, this is a lot better beer than the Borefts rates would suggest? Just lacks a bit of body. This would be a good beer to bottle and hang on to for a while?

Cask at Borefts ’13, 27/09/13. Mid black with no head. Nose is dark malts, vanilla essence, light roast, cocoa. Taste comprises chocolate, brown sugars, light roast, toffee, brown sugars, spice. Medium bodied, slightly watery and thin for the ABV. Ok stuff if a little thin and I wasn’t really picking up the rum either, pretty so so for Thornbridge.

Borefts Beer Festival 5. Day 1. Pretty much an opaque black beer. No real head. Light dry palate with low carbonation. Light touch of dark malts. Touch wood. Mellow bubblegum sweetness. Light dry finish. Disappointingly dull.
