Notes from July 2012 Batch 1 bottle from the CBC fridge & into an Ommegang chalice. Almost 8 bucks! Clear, honey/orange body. Second pour had a fair amount of sediment despite settling in the fridge for a while. An inch of off-white soda suds fizz out before it completely settles. Smells of dusty lemon pepper seasoning, yeast, & crackers. Some cider-ish notions as well. Curious bittersweet fruit notes up front. Middle is toasty malt, chalky/uninspired yeast, & lettuce-y bitterness. A subtle heat lingers & grows well past the finish. Black pepper really stands out. Flavors popped better when cold then cool I found. Tired carbonation & boring yeast kept it from being really refreshing. Price is an issue. Better then I remember it being on tap.

Tap @ Cambridge. Hazy dark golden. Belgian yeast, milled pepper, light spicy, malty.

Bottle at Hoppy Loft. Golden colour, clear, small white head. Aroma is lightly peppery, bit fruity, nice light graininess. Taste is good, pretty subtle black pepper, but it does linger and becomes more prominent as the rest fades. There's other stuff there but I am struggling to pick it. Definite belgian feel, possibly with the body. Grainy bread. Good stuff. Maybe a bomber was too much but it makes me feel like I have eaten, so could be a good thing.

On tap at Cambridge Brewing, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Nose is loaded with loads of peppercorn character, with subdued saison yeast and a touch of earthy rye. Flavour follows through, being dominated by the peppercorn character without much actual spiciness. There's some residual saison yeast detectable, but this is a peppercorn bomb - beastiefan2k would love this.

750 ml bottle bought at Liquor Shed, I couldn't find any dating.
Pours a clear gold, head of foam doesn't last long despite my serving st room temperature. Swirling the glass doesn't help. The foam acts more like the fizz when you pour a soda.
Smells of peppercorns, lemon, sweet notes of perhaps candi sugar or honey, maybe a mix of both.
Malty but not so sweet taste up front. What sweetness I get is more honey like than candi sugar and, wham. The peppercorns move in and take over. Nice bit of heat there; light burning on the back of my throat. More sips, more domination of the pepper.
Medium bodied with fairly lively carbonation so..why the lack of foam?
The pluses outweigh the minuses so it's all good. The heat is on and it's good.

750 ml bottle from Canada Craft Beer Club. Peppercorn all over the place, making this flat beer a complete deception. Absolutely nothing from a saison shows up. I hope this was a bad bottle. Because I did not appreciate this tasteless, flat, pepper beer. Down the drane it went. Lavabo.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Amber orange pour topped by a dense creamy beige head. Fruity malt nose has hints of yeast and hay. First sip yields spicy, earthy malt notes. From there, the heat is on. The underlying earthy funkiness is subtle, but it has staying power. However, the warming heat from the peppercorns keeps building and overtakes the flavor components. Certainly is unique. Spicy dry finish.

750 ml bottle from Whole Foods, Chelsea. Unclear darker orange with almost no head and zero lacing. Belgian yeast, pepper, clove, banana, and a little earth. Leans sweet. More of a Belgian Single type flavor than a Farmhouse for me. Doesn't really have that funk, and it's pretty sweet. Pepper is there, but not overwhelming. Solid, but it's missing something, probably that Farmhouse flavor, that would get the score higher.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a snifter. Slightly hazy light orange with no head. Aroma is light pepper, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is yeasty, pepper, and spice.
