On tap at Phoenix Ale Brewery, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma and flavour of rich roasted malt, medium sweetness for the style, along with cocoa and light coffee. Robust and rich on the finish. Not overly complex and well-designed, but certainly well-made. Good stuff.

Bottle from Daknole - thanks! Small gusher on opening, and almost impossible to pour effectively. Gigantic bordering on monstrous brown head, puffy but not creamy at all. Dissipates slowly mainly due to sheer size, leaving clumpy lacing blobs on the glass. Pours opaque black. Aroma is roasty, anise, chocolate, perhaps cardboard. Flavor is light sweet, a LOT of anise and burned malt notes, medium bitter. Intensely, distractingly carbonated. Medium body, some acidity presumably from burned malts. Ashy. Well, at least its not infected, which was my first thought, but it doesnt have a whole lot going for it either. ADDENDUM: if you let it sit for 30 minutes or so the carbonation dies down and the beer becomes a lot more appreciatable. Not necessarily good, but decent.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of dschiller (I believe). Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Big anise, burnt malty, kind of pepperminty, light veggie aroma. Twangy, black licorice, dark chocolate, fairly boozy, burnt malty flavor. Not a big fan.

Pours a solid black color with a huge unwavering tan head. Smells of light roast, dark pitted fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, and a whole lot of molasses. The flavor is a nice mix of burnt sugars and dark fruit. Light earthy hop flavor help provide balance. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a tart creamy mouthfeel. Nice imperial stout, I’m glad I got to try it.

Bottle at Craft Beer Clerkenwell thanks to Ken, 09/03/13. Dark black with a thin tan head that clears edgeward leaving a small film. Nose is dark fruit, toffee, light smoke, molasses, ash. Taste comprises sweet brown sugars, touch of booze, chocolate, hint of coffee, light soy sauce. Fullish end of medium bodied with soft carbonation, dryish in the finish. Ok stuff.

Craft Clerkenwell. Bottle shared. Opaque black - brown beer. Darkish tan head. Palate is light and airy and semi dry. Tangy dark malt, little dark chocolate and traces of coffee and soy. Mild dark fruits blending in with the tang. Very tangy but quite drinkable.
