Superb golden ale from the Maes brewery. Clear gold, strong complex flavours with a dry aftertaste. Not to heavy in body and quite lively. Should suit the British palate well. Best served in it's own glass. 8,5% alc. Serving temperature 16 •c

Judas was launched in 1986 and was originally brewed in Brasserie Union at Jumet, until production moved to Alken in 2007.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Traverse, Utrecht. Pours dark golden with a big white head. Yeasty sweet aroma. Sweet taste with some alcohol warmth. Reminding me of Duvel but I prefer the Duvel over the Judas anytime. Still, not a bad beer overall.

Aroma hints at the higher alcohol content, some fo the alcohol is evident in the taste, but not overpowering. Lots of sticky lacework on the glass. Flavor of toffee under the alcohol tang.

0.33l bottle brought home from Braai Tapperij de Mug, Middelburg. This one pours a crystal clear golden body that has a small blonding white head that immediately sticks to the sides of the glass. At first it smells a bit metallic and almost like boiled cabbage! That's a bit of a downer.. But after a while I get smoky sausage-tones in this aroma. Yeah, smoky salami blended with boiled cabbage in a metallic kettle. That's a first I guess, and the strange part is that it's actually not horrible at all. The taste is nice and typical for it's genre. A bit alcohol and yeast, white sugar with a gentle fruity-metallic hint. Yeah, it definitely tastes like it should this one, and it has a near burning alcohol aftertaste. Can't complain. 13.07.2012

33cl bottle in Madrid. Pours clear golden with a white head. The usual Belgian aroma. Sweet and fruity with a light bitteness and some acidity. Alcohol is well integrated. Decent strong ale. (2012-08-17)

Wheat like ale but extremely strong, keeps its taste though but must be drunk slowly.

Bottle pours a clear red/brown with a small, fizzy, off white head. Scent is caramel, wood and booze. Taste is sweet and lightly bitter with wood. Nice

Dec 2006 from BA: Poured from a 33cl into a Judas glass (that I hadn’t used for some time), best by end of Feb 2007. Aroma of sour toffee apples and yeast, with hops getting in the way. Tasty looking, old gold colour with a good deep white foaming head which tries to reach the top of its huge glass, just fails and slowly falls away to a thinner covering. I wish every blonde (althought it is classed as a pale beer) I met was as tasty. Full bodied, heavy in alcohol, sour, almost bitter taste, but very, very pleasant. Far to easy to drink for an 8.5% beer, got one more to crack open, but I think I’ll save it for a rainy day. Bad news comes now, as the beer warms up it changes drastically, into a vomit inducing nasty, so drink it cold and drink it fast, trouble is 8.5% means you fall over if you drink it too fast!
