A special brew on the occasion of the opening of the abby tower in Sint-Truiden on May 1, 2005. This triple has a somewhat darker (orange like) colour and a slightly fuller taste than our Kerckomse Tripel, if only to clarify that these are two completely different Triple beers. What makes Adelardus Tripel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs.

Bottle picked up from Belgiuminabox webshop, Antwerp, Belgium and consumed at home Sunday 29th November 2020 listening to Porridge Radio - Every Bad, cooking Pre-Cooked Stewed Chicken from the Curry Guy book for future curries. Pours orange, hazy, white head atop. A little banana, sweetness, warmth from the abv. Fine but no great shakes.

33cl bottle at home (16 X 2020), as Adelardus Tripel. Dark orange brown tripel with an unattractive white and irregular foam collar. The nose has yeasts and dust, not unappealing, different earth notes together with malts and hay. Maybe some sweet raisin hints as well. One can notice some honey suggestions too. Nothing terrible, really. The mouthfeel is pretty, pretty, pretty sweet. Honey, peach, sweet pomelo fruit, raisins (again): naturel sweets. Little malt flavours, and only a slight dash of carbonation and bitterness. Maybe little banana features, different spices here and there. All in all, a very accessible drink - but not really refined and pretty, pretty, pretty sweet.

Bottle from BIAB. It pours lightly hazy orange with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is sweet and bready, honeyed grain, brioche, honey cake, whipped cream, toasty grain and cereal. The taste is rather sweet, toothy, custard creams, candied orange, blossom, marmalade sandwiches, orange drizzle cake, kumquat, icing sugar and a touch of booze with a tangy orange finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A bit sweet for my liking, but OK.

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy amber, with fine white foam. Aroma is really yeasty and fruity, with dry figs, raisin, a little hazelnut. Body is fairly thick, with average carbonation. Taste is markedly sweet. Final is long and sweet.

0.33l bottle. Clear orange body with a thin white head. Aroma and taste of sugar syrup, banana, cloves and medicinal hops. Not bad, but won't be my favourite tripel.
