A special brew on the occasion of the opening of the abby tower in Sint-Truiden on May 1, 2005. This triple has a somewhat darker (orange like) colour and a slightly fuller taste than our Kerckomse Tripel, if only to clarify that these are two completely different Triple beers. What makes Adelardus Tripel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs.

bottle, pours copper/gold , small white foam ( small for a tripel, that is! ) grainy / hay in the smell soft carbo ( yes !! ) . feels ’sugary’ . taste isn’t that bad ( not extremely sugary ) it’s sweet, but more grainy-sweet than sugary. also get some hops in this. in both taste and a bit bitter aftertaste. fairly complex, one of the better tripels to me !

Bottle, 33cl. A firm, off-white head of two-finger thickness sits on top of an unclear, golden-orange body. Some lacings left. The aroma has lots of canned tropical fruits syrup, pineapple and peaches amongst them, there’s some white sugar notes, a faint touch of caramel and a light grassy and piney hint. A weak note of yeast lurks in the far back, becoming noticable as the beer warms a bit. The flavor has a pleasant bitterness, but as it’s also quite sweet, I’d like to see more of it. Pineapples peaches and white sugar, as well as some caramel maltyness, a grassy and piney touch and as in the aroma, some yeasty hints after a while. There’s also some overripe fruit and alcohol in both aroma and flavor, but it’s well hidden when the beer is cold. It’s full-bodied, well carbonated and considering the sweetness, quite dryish on the palate. The carbonation level is of course essential to that sensation. In the finish it certainly needs more bitterness, as the sweetness and alcohol warmth are given too much room, and it’s not as much on the fruity side as initially. Anyway, it’s certainly a nice beer, but probably not deserving as high a score as 3.5. I couldn’t figure where to deduct more though, so that’s where it ended. 121003

Medium offwhite head. Deep yellow body with floaties and carbonation. Resiny earthy wooden aroma with strawy notes. Dry-sweet earthy wooden taste with strawy plastic notes. Sharpish mouthfeel with some noticeable floaties. Dryish earthy musty and sharply resiny aftertaste. The aroma, taste, and aftertaste are really all much of a piece. A bit sharp and edgy. 0.33l bottle courtesy of and shared with ClubGonzo. Pours a near clear golden body with a thin fading sidesticking white head. Aroma is quite malty with a good dash of yeast and citrus. There's also some floral and honey notes in here. Light oily mouthfeeling and average carbonation. Tastes light sweet with honey and candy sugar. Has a mild bitterness and ends light pepperish with a light warming heartburning aftertaste. Expected it to be a bit thinner and watery, but it was actually quite decent stuff.
