A special brew on the occasion of the opening of the abby tower in Sint-Truiden on May 1, 2005. This triple has a somewhat darker (orange like) colour and a slightly fuller taste than our Kerckomse Tripel, if only to clarify that these are two completely different Triple beers. What makes Adelardus Tripel so special, is the use of so-called ‘gruut’. This is a mixture of about 10 different indigenous herbs.

Bottled. Hazy orange colour, mediumsized foamy head, some lacing. Aroma is orange, spices and yeast. Flavour is spices, oranges, alcohol and a bit marmeladeish. Yeast also gives a big "dryish" and quite earthy hints in the finish. The sweetness balances quite good with the yeast.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 2 Sep) Colour is amber, slightly hazy, with firm white head. Nose i fruity with lots of orange, mandarin, apricots and citrussy hops. Taste is frutiy with orange, mandarin, peaches and a nice spicy hoppy character in the finish. Rather sweet, but still balanced. Very nice beer with a nice and spicy hop taste.

Very slightly hazy orange-gold; huge orange tinted head, quite stable. Fruity nose, spicey but also smoked like a fat hamrind, meaty & yeasty nose. And unmistakably white candi sugar; Sweetish main taste, with outspoken flavour of orange zeste, preserved orange or even preserved ginger, more bitter. Again some meaty-yeasty impressions. Bitterness only hints at hops in the finish. Quite well-bodied, more restsugars & slickness than usual in a tripel. I was wondering whether it was going to be different from the Kerkomse Tripel ; same style, same ABV.... But it is no doubt different: way more sweet, less hopped. Thanks for the bottle, Mark, but I prefered the Kerkomse version, if I may say so...
