Whisky barrel aged version (according to the brewery) of Gulden Draak Classic, launched in 2014 for the 230th birthday of the brewery, originally in 75 cl bottles only.

Gulden Draak Brewmaster is een ode van de zesde generatie meesterbrouwer aan de vorige generaties brouwers van de brouwerij Van Steenberge, aan het vakmanschap van onze traditionele brouwkunst en met name aan de vijfde generatie brouwer: Jozef Van Steenberge, die zich rond het jaar 1975 verdiepte in de speciaalbieren, gecombineerd met de experimenten van de nieuwe ‘Craft beer world’.
Bij de Gulden Draak Brewmaster zullen de brouwers het basisbrouwsel van de Gulden Draak Classic laten rijpen op houten vaten afkomstig van gedestilleerde dranken, afhankelijk van de beschikbaarheid.

Clear dark amber, tiny white head. Aroma of wood, syrup, hay. Taste of sweet cake, tobacco, alcohol.

330 ml bottle, as Gulden Draak Brewmaster, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10.5%. Amber colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts, caramel, kandij sugar syrup, mild spices, a hint of oak. Soft and rich mouthfeel. The medium sweet flavour has the same elements as the aroma, but the oaky notes are more pronounced now. Pleasant to drink.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 25C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch undeclared (BB 14/11/25). AROMA: medium esters with pear drop notes. low metallic background note. slight peppery alcohol. medium-low neutral malt background with slight sweetness. APPEARANCE: light amber color and translucent. medium-low ivory head with medium retention. lace formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium esters (pear drop), slight peppery alcohol, medium-low malt background, soft, with an almost toffee-like character. medium bitterness with a dry finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium body with medium to medium-high carbonation. OVERALL: resembles a more intense belgian golden strong ale, malt-wise, with traditional characteristics.

Ein neues schweres belgisches Bier aus dem Hause Steenberge, das im Whiskey-Fass gereift ist. Es ist schön fruchtig-holzig, aber auch verdammt spritig, also intensiv nach Schnaps schmeckend. EIn Bier, das zwar schön harmonische Aromen hat, aber auch viel verliert durch die dominierenden Schapsnoten.

Bottle, at Patrick's. An almost clear one, dark golden in color, with a small white head. Lacing. Quite fruity aroma, with alcohol, tropical fruit, grass, bread dough and some pit fruit. It's lightly warming, full bodied, softly carbonated, with a light bitterness. Mostly fruity flavor and finish. A nice Belgian one indeed. 230218

Bottled (From De Biertonne). Goldeny amber colour with a mediumsized slighly off-white head. Aroma is toffee, vanilla, alcohol, some fudge and mild dried fruity elements. Flavour is pretty much following the pattern of the aroma, but let's the booze out a bit more. Still smooth to drink and a nice Winter Warmer.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear golden with an off-white head. Sweet, fruity nose - almost hubbabubbaish - with a faint hint of....peat? Rich, sweet body, plenty of fruit, plenty of sugars and perhaps a wee note of wood. But the barrel note is absolutely to the low side. Still quite enjoyable. 191222

Florals and light lemon. Some coriander, clove. Dark golden pour with good head and lacing. Rich aroma with hints of whiskey barrel oak. Sweet finish with a hint of bitterness. Very well done, and nicely balanced. Tap at Porto Beer Fest.
