01/11/2014 : 75 cl bottle from Malts Attack @ home. Rusty colour with small white head. Nose is spicy, herbal. Taste especially spices (orange peel, pepper, ...) , little sweetness, little sourness. One of the strangest brews I ever had, however, liked it.

One of the most classic and authentic saisons, continued by Vapeur after the original brewery stopped its brewing activities in 1984. Warm coppery amber colour and spicy character with citrus touches, lots of actual spiciness, some ’wild’ tartness and herbally hoppy finish. Great and respectable example of its style.

Bottle shared in the car in Belgium - March 2013. Pours clear gold with fine effervescence and a light, white foam head. Tangy citrus aroma with hints of sour wheat, spices, herbs. Light sweet flavor with mellow spices, sour bread, leaves and pine. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Sour tang at the end with notes of orange and tangerine, along with light alcohol warmth. Meh, a bit scattered. (March 2013, score: 2.8).

Bottle on the bus during RBWG 2015. Vintage 2002. Pours hazy gold wit a light, frothy topping. The nose holds wood, old caramel. The flavour has lightly tart lemons, bread, apples. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy lemon and apple finish. Not bad. (February 2015, score: 3.4)

Just arrived at Liquor Shed in Casper.

Okay, a big pop and super gush when I removed the cap. Beer everywhere.

It pours a rusty murky colour with a 1 finger head of foam. Nice lacing.

A strong spicy nose of coriander, clove, bubblegum. Yeast. A very perfumey nose overall.

Everything in the smell is in the taste as well as a strong bitter/tartness of lemon zest and apples, It finishes bitter and tart. Long aftertaste.

On the low end of medium bodied, the carbonation, well, it’s healthy to say the least.

Other than the huge gush, this was very enjoyable.

Tasty saison. Has the usual notes of dry grass and hops, but also has a light taste of pepper. Good.

1997 750mL. Pours a very rosy orange. Light yellows and almost a pink hue to it. Good amount of sediment. Fleeting white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of cheese, cheese and more cheese. Wow, is this beer brewed with blue cheese??? Amazing. Very funky, lots of serious yeast, blue cheese, bacteria (which creates the cheesy smell), and some very faint ripe fruit notes. Flavor is heavily funky, more cheese, no trace of the hallertauers, dont taste the ginger either. Has a soft, round body, medium and somewhat oxidized. Very good for being this old though. Balance is wonderful. Tends to the sweet side, but not overly so, with a drier yeast flavor coming on in the finish. A bit of residual spice is felt, though it has dulled out quite a bit I would imagine. Wonderful and different. I will be buying the 96 vintage next time I go shopping. 9/5/8/5/18
1995 750mL Glad I got to try this, as I will have had the 95 and 97 with the 96 in my cellar. All of the sour, spoiled fruits and funky, acidic lactobacillus, heavily aged hops and tart citrus in the nose. Flavor is full of cheese, musty barnyard notes, old sour oranges, spoiled grapefruits, more rhubarb and light cider. For a 10 year old beer, this stuff is remarkable. Medium body, good amount of oxiadation, but not overly so/more than expected. Very soft carbonation, but it is still present. Oily mouthfeel. I think, for my tastes, that I preferred this stuff 6 years old instead of 10, but it is still fantastic, IMHO. 8/5/8/4/17. Score is an average of the two years.
1996 bottle drunk 3/29/14. 18 years old!!!
Somewhat of an aged sample here, haha. Was very much expecting to take a sip and pour the rest out....But no, actually, the cork comes off with a big pop and we get a nice clear amber liquid with a large white head that recedes to cover. Ginger, light amber malts, lactic acid, bits of orange peel and nice esters.
Moment of truth....and it tastes....NOT BAD! Haha, wow, definitely can feel its age with plenty of light sherry notes, some wateriness to the body and some strong metallic notes. But the lactic acid, light amber maltiness and spices still make for a reasonably drinkable beer. Writing this review as I’m drinking it and letting it breath, and it’s actually gaining strength and depth. Beer is one hell of a mysterious and amazing beverage! May have to kick the score up just a touch because of how well this stuff has aged. I should probably try a bottle that isn’t 6-18 years old...

0.75l bottle. Clear amber body, off-white head. The aroma is like the air of a wine cellar with some champagne, apple and orange peel. Taste of toast and cherry. The texture is silky. Interesting beer, I like it.
