ZBF: Black belgian porter or stout. Bitter taste due the roasted malts, and some hidden sweetness.

Thnx to phille. Pours dark brown. Ok white head. Fluffy and stable. Smell isbit sweet, rather full malty. Taste is caramelly ( sweet) some metallic notes. High carbo, not too much body but still in the ok zone. Meh... Not bad, but like the BA version, I have questions about why this would be called a porter...

One of Montaigu’s first beers - and an attempt at porter, for that matter. Light beige, creamy head over a murky bronze beer showing an aroma of candied fruits, chocolate, hazelnuts but unfortunately some DMS (cooked cabbage) too. Sweetish taste of candied dates, esters, candi sugar, rich dark maltiness, some vague smokiness and light roasted bitterness in the end. Acceptable, but I had much better porters. It is clear this is a style Belgian brewers are not yet familiar with.

33 cl. bottle split / sampled @ Eet & Bierlokaal De Molen during RBESG 2013. Pours a dark brown, big tanned head. Nose carries faint iron, caramel, malts, cacao, sweet yeast. Taste is sweet caramel, brown sugar, sweet BE yeast, coffee, light roast. Slightly creamy body, really surprised by this one. Easily exceeded my expectations.

Bottle at the RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Poured a cloudy dark brown with a frothy white head. The flavour is medium bitter, dry and with some roasted malt and coffee. Drinkable but not one that I would track down to buy.
