Grut bier has roots in many cultures and each culture had it’s own “special ingredients": Egyptians, Native Americans, Arabian Tribes, Gaulles, Germanic Tribes and the Vikings.
This interpretation of a traditional Grut Bier is spiced with Lorbeer (Bay Leaves), Ingwer (Ginger), Kummel (Caraway), Anis (Anise), Rosemarin (Rosemarie) & Enzian (Gentian). It is brewed with water, wheat & barley malt, "pollinated wild hops" and fermented using top fermenting yeast.

Wow, this was an awesome (bottle) offering from Weihenstephan. Lots of ginger and citrus and such, finish is clean - sort of like a modified Berliner Weisse. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Bottle. Gold in color with a nice head. Aroma and taste both was like some kind of old timey medicine. Just average. Wouldn’t want to drink again.
That's a super sweet. It's powerful but balanced. I kinda love it.

500 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer, thanks for the share. Hazy gold color, nice flowery aroma. Lemons and spice.
Very floral nose with ginger and the bay leaves the brewer talks about on the label. Yep, rosemary as well. Very herbal. Massive dry texture and finishes with the array of spice toward the finish. Yes this is indeed a gruit that not many brewers do. Interesting.

16.9 oz bottle. Aroma is extremely floral, herbal--honeysuckle, basil, licorice, ginger are what I’m smelling. Pours hazy pale yellow with a medium white head with decent retention. Taste is floral, herbal, lightly tart (lacto?), finishing very dry with quite a bit of un-hop-like bitterness that lingers. Mouthfeel is creamy, carbonation fine, body thin. Very interesting and tasty.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with medium frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is strong dandellion and wheat. Medium mouthfeel with sweet grain, rosemary, floral, light tartness. Such a complex brew.

On tap at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a hazy gold with some thin white head. Nose of aftershave, mint, loads of spice. Like someone opened their spice cabinet and it fell into the boil... and late. Flavor follows right along, loads of fresh herbs, mint, aftershave. Drain pour, in my opinion.

Wow, talk about loaruel and ginger in here. Not sure how much I like this one. Pours cloudy yellow without much head or lacing. Lots of rosemary as well. A little jumbled. Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont.

Bottle (thanx to jfb!!!):Pale golden, cloudy, some floaties visible, small and loose White head, moderately spicy (X-mas and cough-syrup and herbs de Provence) sourish-sweet nose; moderate sourish-sweet flavour, light bodied, a bit fizzy; light spicy and sourish finish. Like a diluted cough-syrup with a dash of lemon-juice...; no hope without hops!
