Deep ruby-tinted amber and copper coloured body with only a thin, oily and large-bubbled tan head. Aroma of some light brett, bunches of malt and only a bit of sugars from caramel and light fruit - none of the deep pit fruit and complex sugars usually associated with the style. Full-bodied; Rich sweet malt flavour with an earthy vibe and a lot of unfinished caster sugar and apricot tastes along with a hint of grapes and a good hit of alcohol on the finish. Aftertaste shows a lot of sugars with malt and some light fruit noticeable, but not complex at all. Overall, a decent barley wine with some good flavours, but nothing like a complex english or american barley wine - this is more simplistic and sweet, but a decent option if looking for something stronger here in Belgium. I sampled this funny shaped 37,5 cL bottle purchased from Delices & Caprices in Bruxelles, Belgium on 14-August-2013 for €4,00 sampled at home in Washington after just returning from another trip to the Belgian capital on 25-January-2015.

Tap at CML fontainas . Pours clear amber, good white head . Smell is sweet and grainy. Thick and intense . More sharp than other BW’s , as well . Taste is also nice and thick, buttery , malty , with some green hops aspects, withoud being to bitter . Some sweet , almost vanilla ( not vanilla ) Character . Still rather easy drinkable . Light metallic features . Very nice, fleshy aftertaste . Quite balanced

Newish Belgian-style barley wine with thin, beige, creamy head and hazy bronze colour with protein flakes floating around. Complex fruity aroma of chocolate liqueur, coffee grounds, honey, cognac, hazelnuts, pepper, coriander, dried orange peel. Spicy taste with agreeable, soft malt sweetness, some pear and honey, bit powdery mouthfeel, and, as can be expected from the style, warming brandy-like alcohol in the finish along with herbal hops. Very pleasant.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours clear copper with a few bubbles. Aroma of mild fruits and brown sugar. It’s a clean, penetrating aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is treacle that persists and makes it hard to dissect the base flavors. Maybe brown sugar more than treacle. It has a woodiness. A berriness. I’m not really getting heat as an impact, maybe as a flavor. Rather mouth smacking. It’s not dry, but I’m tempted at each quaff to think dry. Nice ale here.
