Cloudy dark brown beer. Tidy pale brown head. Slightly crisp palate, fairly dry. A little cream in the strong malt. Tangy fruits and a slightly floral note. Mild sweet red berry fruits. Quite a bit of alcohol dryness in the finish and some aniseed but oddly, not that much heat. Orange tangy fruits at the very end. Unusual!

Bottle, 33cl. A quite clear one, light amber in color and with a small, off-white head. It feels a bit peppery on the nose, black pepper that is, and there’s some alcohol, caramel maltyness and dried fruits. Not very complex, but pleasant. There’s a pleasant burn both in the mouth and in the swallow, but it doesn’t taste very alcoholic. Caramel and dried fruits, as well as some tropical fruits. Lasting finish with lots of warmth. Well, Belgium isn’t famous for the barley wines, and this one won’t help on that reputation. 121109
