Bottle from Bier Planet, Brussels (expensive!); bb 02/2016
Cloudy amber color; the carbonation seems to be low, but still able to produce a big head, creamy and persistent. Nice aroma, malt, earthy, with soil, wet soil and manure; demerara sugar. Good body, with some malt, and a clear yeasty and spicy profile; the bitterness is stronger than the average; the sweetness level is very average for strong Belgian beers; traces of vegetables. Too spicy to be a Barley Wine, this is a Strong Belgian Ale, not even very well brewed.

6/III/2012 37.5cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: II/16 (2012-221)

Pretty cloudy red to purple beer, big yellowish creamy head, falls down fast to a thin adhesive and stable creamy layer. Lots of purple brownish slimy lumps in the beer. That doesn't look too appealing. Aroma: black cherry jam (from Materne!), bit dusty, alcoholic. MF: almost no carbon, full body, thick syrupy texture. Taste: fruity, red fruits, alcohol, bit vinous, cherries, sugary, sour berries, lemon. Aftertaste: notes of black chocolate, bitter hops, citrus, little dusty, black cherries, woody, dried fruits, warming alcohol in the back of the throat. Complex enough, but just a tad too off to be good.

Bottle that I picked up at Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent consumed at Baz’s, Manchester 19.01.12 Pours hazy dark amber. There is plenty of chocolate about this, touch of powdery bitter cocoa, Baz said that he got caramel. Sweet & fruity with some hops showing, the abv is also noticeable for the warmth that it adds. Nice beer. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
