We built our first brewhouse using recycled dairy equipment. We had to test our handywork, so we loaded it up with a heavy, dark Stout. That first batch was a 13-hour labor of love, and when we sipped the first bottle, we knew we had a keeper. With a nod to the West Coast, we balance Stout’s deep, roasted malt flavors with earthy, whole-cone hops.

Creamy, malty, and full-bodied, the Sierra Nevada Stout is satisfyingly rich. Caramel and Black malts give the Stout its deep, dark color and pronounced roasted flavor.

Bottle. Chocolate, prune, and coffee, aroma. Black brown with a moderate tan head, light lacing. Bitter dark chocolate, earthy coffee, and very slight anise flavor with a light herbal bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation.

[Bottle that Jim shared with me - cheers!] Black with a large beige head and a sligh fizz. An American hop aroma of pine and lime continues into the flavour, to be joined by coffee, gingery spice, a light roastiness and some grapefruit. It’s perfectly balanced and easy to drink, whilst being complex and rewarding at the same time. A superb stout.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ido’s place. Thanks zvikar. Dark brown to black with a beige to light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, a bit of chocolate and some floral and slightly citric hops. Roasty flavor with some chocoalte, coffee hints and a bitter finish with some hops. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Black slightly rich on the palate and strong in alcohol. Some dryness, bitterness and fruit flavours in a warming roast malt finish.

Brown 350ml bottle obtained from ’Beers of Europe’ and poured into a ’Gordon Finest Gold’ thistle shaped glass. My first American Stout: best before 29th July 2010, drank and reviewed 26th March 2010. Very dark body, a deep, deep reddy/black colour, on top sat a tan coloured foaming head. The head tried to stay the distance and was still almost there at the end of the tasting. Rich, dark, bitter chocolate smell, some ground coffee too, with a dusting of pepper. The bitter dark chocolate from the smell carries nicely into the taste. It gives a dry feel to the beer and it certainly becomes drier as the mouth rests between gulps. This is a fine stout, not creamy or rich in the mouthfeel, but robust and strong from start to finish.

Bottled, 0.350l. Dark chocolate color with small, but creamy brownish head. Strong hoppy aroma with caramel, roasted barley and coffee notes. Roasted barley gives this beer full, rich and coffee flavor that is continued to pleasant hoppy aftertaste. Full bodied, crispy mouthfeel and average carbonation in palate. Although I don’t like coffee, this one is very tasty...

Purchased at Breeze Thru Wine & Spirits in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon while watching the Bulls vs. Heat, hanging out with my cat, living my exciting life. Appearance is pitch black with a very frothy, creamy light tan head. Aroma of rich floral hops with equal balance of roasted malt and chocolate, smells nice and fresh. Taste is rich, malts come out more than hops in the flavor, it’s rich but also a bit light for a stout, but not light enough to be a porter. Nice and bitter finish, it’s an all around great beer, encompasses many qualities of a great ale set to the stout style. Very nice.
