It is also the winner of Norwegian national championship for home brewers. We at Nøgne Ø want to make this great barley wine available commercially, so beer drinkers will have an opportunity to experience the best Norwegian homebrew. Though made in Nøgne Ø brewery, this beer was brewed by its creator, Gahr Smith-Gahrsen.

Bottle. Pours the color of a dingy, tarnished penny with a thin head and sticky sweet aromas of caramel, dark fruit, brown sugar and the like. Flavor is very nice, but pretty sweet. Lots of brown sugar and fruit coat the palate with a viscous and sticky sweetness. ABV is well-hidden, but there is a decent amount of warmth in the throat. This is very nice, just wish that Nogne had better price control in the U.S.

Thanks to Blazer06 for bringing along this new brew. It pours clear amber with copper hues and thin off white head. The aroma is sweet with cherry malty sweetness, a sense of caramel and hints of floral hops. The taste is smooth slick malts and ripe cherry, prunes and figs. It stays smooth and dark fruity sweet into the finish with a light sense of caramel hanging around deep into the after taste. Nice English style barleywine.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours dark copper with a large foamy tan head. Nice aromas of roasted malt and hop. Near full in body with chewy, foamy carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt, with enough bitter to help cut the sweetness. But there are some other flavors, and I think chocolate might be one of them. Very smooth, and not much heat. Good.
