People in the North have always known that ice-cold beer did not mix well with the freesing cold weather. So for the wintertime they brewed a strong beer spiced with herbs and honey, suitable for heating over the fire.
„Mulled Ale“ has been brewed with those old traditions in mind. This ale, spiced with exotic herbs and Estonian honey, tastes best when heated to quite high temperatures and raisins, cinnamon or dried berries added to the liking.The brave ones can add a lightly beaten egg yolk.
Põhjamaadel teati juba ammu, et krõbeda pakase kõrvale ei sobi jääkülm õlu. Talvel joomiseks pruuliti kange õlu, mida sündis tule kohal kuumaks ajada ning ürtide ja meega maitsestada.
„Hõõgõlu“ on pruulitud nendele vanadele tavadele mõeldes. Eksootiliste vürtside ja Eesti meega maitsestatud õlu on parim kui ta üsna kuumaks ajada ja siis oma isu järgi rosinate, kaneeli või kuivatatud marjadega mõnusaks timmida. Julgemad võivad proovida lisada ka ühe lahti klopitud munakollase.

Bottled. Deep rubyish red colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is gingerbread, some more xmas spicines and caramel with some alcohol sweetness too. Flavour is berries, gingerbread, xmas spices and some ripe fruits.

Õlle on selline jook, et iga uus kord kui klaasi või pudeli suule tõstad, siis leiad midagi uut, sõltuvalt tuhandest-miljonist pisiasjast, mis hetke olukorda mõjutavad. Seega piirdun iga õlle juures selle tekstiga.

Bottle. Color: Copper, very thin beige head. Aroma: Malty with a lot of herbs and spices, cinnamon and ginger. Taste cold: Very herbal, notes of cinnamon, ginger, malty, honey, sweet. Slightly irritating on the tongue. Thoughts of Christmas, warming by the fire inside while it's freezing cold outside. (Although it's about 20 degrees C outside on this moment). Like Glühwein. Ok, drinkable, but annoying after half a bottle, although I do understand that people like to drink this kind of very herbal / spicy beer when it's really cold. Taste hot: Barely drinkable. Still very herbal and spicy, the tastes blend together, some kind of sweet and sour berries which I did not taste when cold, a bit medicinally. Doesn't sound that bad, but in some way it's tasting nasty. Rating is based on cold beer, hot it would be 1.6.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours clear brown with a modest off-white to beige head. Malty and spicy with aroma that reminds me of gløgg, yes. Tried both at room temperature and warmed up, both had some advantages to the other, but neither one was too pleasant. Warming alcohol and spicy finish. Interesting enough, but not a beer I would have again, I think.

Bottled 330ml (Beer Hunters). Dark ruby colour, tiny beige head. Ginger bread, caramel in the nose. Medium-bodied. Quite sweet, berries, ginger bread in the flavour. Served cold. Sampled also hot ... then it is undrinkable.

Bottle (thanks fatphil). Aroma is massive spices, cardemon, malt, sweetness. Flavor follows the nose. Covers abv well. Overall: ok, very christmasy.
