50cl bottle. Pours a muddy chocolate brown with very little head. Nose of raisins, dried malt bread. Taste of malt loaf, very dry raisins. Palate is medium bodied with a tangy middle and a drying finish. Overall, slightly disappointing when you consider it to be a Christmas beer but maybe alright on cask..

Cask at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 15/09/12. Dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that soon cleared to the edge. Malty nose, a little chocolate and coffee. Taste as nose, a touch of liquorice and dark fruit. Medium bodied, a little on the wet side.

Cask @ Wetherspoon. Black with no head. Aroma of roasted malt. Thin, watery, bitter roasted malt, bit of coffee. Unpleasant, very dry finish. A poor example of the style. 2.2
Re-rate from bottle as Festive Christmas Porter 25/12/11
Aroma - Earthy hops, roasted malt, minerals, some yeast
Taste - Burnt toast, bitter very earthy hops, mineraly, some yeast, stale - not good.
Palate - Moderate carb, thin body, bit oily texture. Finish - dry, burnt, bitter, earthy, rust, minerals.
Overall - Nope - not for me. Every aspect of this beer is below par. A really awful porter. Nothing festive about this beer. Drain pour.

Clear brown beer. Bloody dry palate! I don’t want every drop of saliva sucked out of my mouth! Why do brewers think this is a good thing? The only other time this happens is at the dentist when you are getting a filling and the nurse is there with that mouth hoover! I don’t want to pay to repeat that experience in a beer - so stop making them so bloody dry dammit! Some dust. Rich malt and not much else in this bloody overdry beer! Original rating 2.3

Cloudy dark brown beer. Frothy short lived cream coloured head. Light frothy palate. Creamy malt, no bitterness. Tangy dark malt and minerals lead up to the dry finish. Bitter aftertaste. Still dry but nowhere near as bad as first time around!

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a clearish brown with no head. Weak aroma of dark malts, mild cocoa. Faint sugars in flavor, faint roast, hints of earthy bitters. Light bodied with doft carbonation. Boring finish, mild toast, hints of plastic and grass. Poor condition.

Originally rated on October 2006. New arrival at the LCBO, and does not look like a standard-staying product. Nice old-school hand-made looking label. Pours a deep brown-caramel-red colour with a great big tanned head. This one has great retention and leaves great chunky lace all around. Bottled conditioned, so has a cloudiness to it. MacIntosh apple scent with some hop and slight roasted malt. The mouthfeel is quite thin and watery. Makes this a very easy drinking and refreshing porter. The taste is pretty interesting. Not too strong, but with a nice start of grain malt, the apples are somewhere in there too, then goes into a hoppy finish that has mild bitterness. A beautiful light coffee taste appears in the aftertaste. A well-brewed mild porter.
