Bottle from Drankenspeciaalzaak Jelle, Leeuwarden. Aroma is strong port, oak, red grapes, dark malt. The rum is there but plays second fiddle to the port, with soft dried fruits, raisins, cane sugar, mild alcohol, hint of berries and vanilla. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate bitter Body is medium. Heavy on the port, body could be a bit more full, but I quite like this.

33cl Fles van Jopen, aantal jaar geleden gekocht. Donker bruinrode kleur, beige kraag. Heerlijk aroma van port, zoete rode wijn, vanille, alcohol, kruidige rum, hout, smaak is wat simpeler, meer een standaard zoete dubbelbock of Quad, vrij moutig, donker fruit, licht zuurtje, hout, hint van de port en rum maar dat had meer gemogen, bitterzoete finish. Volle body.

Eisbock? Oh well! That's what it says on the label, but I would have expected a higher abv. Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. The malts are slightly thin but bring a decent creamy sweetness. Touches of caramel and toffee. I thought the rum barrel would kick the port barrel into touch, really not the case. In fact this is a really nice blend of barrelling. Good juicy port berry fruits, better than I would have expected from a ruby port barrel. Soft but ripe and juicy fruity rum. Harmonious. And in this case, that means drinkability. Very nicely done.

Allier porto et rhum...quelle drôle d'idée. Ce n'est pas une alliance qui me viendrait naturellement. Et en dégustant cette Ex Girlfriend, cela m'a conforté dans mon avis. Cela ne fonctionne pas réellement. Et de plus le porto alourdit l'Eisbock même si on y retrouve la puissance de l'Ex Girlfriend que je trouve de haute facture. Tout cela me laisse à minima dubitatif....

Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Notes of dried fruit, spiced rum, sweet port, toffee, bitter cherries, oak, wood. I am liking this one, it's quite well-balanced, up there with some of the better BA strong ales I've had.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Porto aroma, oak, soft herbal notes and rum in the aroma. Malty sweet, vinous flavor with raisin and soft herbal notes. Lagers of porto and rum with, surprisingly, a good balance, in spite of the sweetness. Good.
