Bottle from the brewery. It pours clear deep red-amber with a decent off-white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, rich malty action, juicy, orange rind, caramel, red berry, brown bread and a good deal of spice. The taste is bitter-sweet, brown bread, spicy, rye, orange rind, light alcohol, pepper, leather, mild acidity, candied fruits and fruit cake with a dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. I touch too much spice perhaps, but an interesting beer for sure. Decent.

On cask @ the Red Squirrel on 18/01/15. This was beer C in the blind tasting. Appearance - deep amber with a nicely proportioned head. Nose - plenty of malt and toffee going on, some spice too. Some apples. Taste - more of the same - malt, toffee and fruit all well melded together. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a nice dry finish. Overall - should’ve known there was rye in there. I thought it was an ESB or a strong amber of some sort. Red rye makes sense. Nice beer.
