Bottle from Deeside Drinks Emporium. It pours very dark brown, with a massive light tan head. The nose is cream, milk, roasted malt, meat, coffee and a hint of sourness. The taste is milk, roasted malt, charcoal, coffee, some bitter chocolate, ash and liquorice, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A decent milk stout.

Brown 500ml bottle conditioned beer, best before Aug 2011, reviewed late Apr 2011. Poured into an Abbot Ale tankard: really dark brown, almost black, a tan blanket of foam sat on top. The aroma was of chocolate, coffee and malty molasses. Although the smell intimated the beer would be fairly sweet it was in fact dry. Although the taste was of dark chocolate it didn’t feel sweet, in fact a mild bitterness seemed to be the over-riding flavour. Well carbonated, most of the sediment stayed in the bottle, but some got into the glass, however because of the dark colour you’d never really notice. Pleasant and easy to drink, recommended.

Bottle from Carringtons, Chorlton. Deep dark brown pour with a thin fading tan head. Sweet, roasted malt aroma with smoke and berry fruit notes. Medium carbonation. More roasted character in the flavour with slight smoke. Didn’t really dance on the palate but went down ok. .Slight bitterness in the finish. Passable if a bit lacking in any real character..
