Half pint on tap at the Rhinoceros JDW Rotherham. Medium creamy beige head. Clear light amber pour. An odd tasting beer. Not unpleasant but not great either

Handpull cask at the Sir John Borlase Warren. Light tawny brown, clear with a thin cream-coloured head. Toast and chestnut in the aroma along with an astringent vegetal smell. Taste is improved, sweet at first with an astringent follow-up. Bitterness pervades the finish and aftertaste. Watery thin body. I love a good Old Ale but this one is hard to like.

Cask @ Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Golden-amber with a frothy head. There’s not a huge amount of traditional old ale character in this one, but it’s a decent enough hoppy brew with its strength well hidden.

Bright clear amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, some caramel. Modest ripe fruits and dried fruits. Trace of bubblegum esters. Light semi dry floral finish. It’s okay but lacks strength and depth.
