A dark, bitter stout. Roast and nut aromas with a fruity balance of hops and dark malt provide an excellent lingering finish.

500ml bottle from Co-Op at Cambridge North station. Pours black with an off-white head. Trad stout profile, fairly light bodied, soft roasty dark malt with dark fruits rising from the ashes on the finish, tobacco linger. Not bad.

Cask at Moon under Water, Wolverhampton Pours almost black witht a small cream head. Nose has a vague aroma of milk and malts. In the mouth the texture is creamy with flavour dominated by chocolate and roast malts with some dark fruits and hints of liquorice. Finish is sweet and fruity. Nice enough but not very “stouty” – I thought it was a mild until I looked at previous reviews !

20/2/2020. Cask at the Chelmsford Winter Beer & Cider Festival 2020. Pours dark brown with a small bubbly off-white to beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, toffee, moderate roasting, malts, dried fruit and slight ash. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium plus body, velvety texture, soft carbonation. Mauldons best beer in my book.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Vague sweet chocolate aroma. Dark. The beige head clings to the rim. Initial light sour before sugary creamy sweetness comes through. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Long finish. Sweet but basic stuff.
