A dark, bitter stout. Roast and nut aromas with a fruity balance of hops and dark malt provide an excellent lingering finish.

Bottle, 0.50l, shared with colleagues. Pitch black color with thin creamy light brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of heavily roasted malt, smoke, charcoal and leather. Taste starts with light sweet but rich roasted malt with nutty note, following is smoky and mild fruity, mouthfeel is dry, while finish is mild bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. This one was incredibly hard to drink, smoke and leather notes were too strong...

Bottle at home from waitrose, thanks to Sarah for picking this one up. Opaque black coloured pour with a nice compact light tan head that hades to a halo. Aroma is sweet caramel, nutty malts with a little dirty ashy edge. Considerable berry fruits on the nose as well. Later there is some soapy notes. Flavour is rounded milky lactose sweetness, caramel and chocolatey roast. English yeast with fruity berry esers. Palate is nice and rounded pretty full bodied, pretty milky sweet. Nice rounded stout.

12 Apr 2012: hand-pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons. Black as the ace of spades with very little head showing, this looked a mean brew. The aroma given off was of roasted, slightly burnt malts with a nutty feel (like an over cooked nut roast, that veggie’s eat). Sweeter in the mouth than the nose: some caramel hints in with the malty nut roast. Deep and thick bodied, couldn’t call it ‘rich’ or ‘creamy’, but certainly had a depth of flavour. An OK Stout.

Cask at Blackfriars, Aberdeen. It pours black, with a ruby tinge and a foamy beige head. The nose is chocolate, dark fruit, charcoal and soap. The taste is chocolate, liquorice, varnish, cherry, dark fruit, roasted malt, charcoal and some alcohol warmth, with a dry finish. Medium to full body, fine carbonation, velvety mouth-feel and good balance. Nice.
